Title: Make it stand out, United States
Betty Hansborough helps her granddaughter with her homework surrounded by family members in her home in Detroit, Michigan. On July 18, 2013, the Detroit officially entered Chapter 9 bankruptcy, leading to population decline. This decline challenges the communities to provide basic municipal services. Detroit has well above average utility rates and suffers frequent blackouts in low income communities. Betty and her family live in an area that is largely abandoned and has experienced inflated utility rates. Being a recent recipient of solar panels from local non-profit NEWCC and the Honnold Foundation has alleviated both heavy electric bills and economic stress.

Title: green energy
A wind turbine creates reliable, cost-effective and pollution-free energy. It is affordable and sustainable. Wind is a source of energy which is non-polluting and renewable, the turbines create power without using fossil fuels. That is, without producing greenhouse gases, radioactive or toxic waste. Making the future a greener place to live.

Title: Towards a bright future In India
The larger proportion of houses with access to electricity have higher rates of literacy. There is a positive relationship between power consumption and education in the country. Electricity in houses is a part of basic infrastructure requirements to provide quality education. Electricity helps in teaching the children for their holistic development. The power energy increases their attraction towards learning. And leads them towards a bright future…

Title: Pearl Entrepreneurs clean energyMake it stand out.
For years, my family was exposed to smoke and fumes while lighting using kerosene lamps, unaware of the effects that these dirty fuels would have on our health and wellbeing. In 2018, my grandmother died in a fire outbreak caused by a kerosene lamp and our neighbour suffered a stroke caused by these fuel. I am determined to improve the quality of life for low-income households so that nobody else will have to face the pain and financial and emotional strain caused by pollutive fuels.

Title: Solar mud fishing
In India’s state of Odisha villagers trap fish using cone-shaped baskets and solar lanterns in a mud pond. The fishermen use the lanterns to look for fish in the mud. When they see bubbles coming from the surface, they throw the cone down into the mud and with their hand catch the fish inside of it. Fewer than half of Odisha’s 42 million residents use grid electricity. Roughly 1.1 billion people in the world live without access to electricity, and close to a quarter of them are in India.

Title: Possibilities of Rural Electrification
From the East to the West, from the North to the South clean and affordable energy access remains a huge challenge in Nigeria with a population of over 190 million people and with energy access of barely 55%. The residents of Makarfi LGA in Kaduna, Nigeria can leap for joy as children can study and play at night due to efficient lighting, female pepper farmers can solar dry their pepper to reduce moisture and post-harvest losses.

Title: TheatrE lights
Theatre Lights is a story about frugal innovation. My experience as an amateur photographer was parlayed into my mission to empower energy poor off-grid communities. In 2019 I modified a photography soft box lamp holder into a solar powered theatre light for an off-grid Primary Healthcare Center (PHC). The lights run on low voltage Direct Current (DC) and do not require the extra expense of an inverter to work. Without funds to fuel a generator and previously depending on hand held lamps to run the clinic, solar power delivered much needed relief. Young women from this off-grid community were invited to learn the basics of solar power. The picture captures the moment when the switch was turned on for the theatre lights
